Mt. Rushmore and the Black Hills

Deadwood, South Dakota where Wild Bill Hickok was shot and buried.

Someone needs to go on a diet.
Wild Bill's grave in Deadwood cemetery.

It was very interesting learning how Mr. Rushmore was built.  They used a point system to transfer the measurements from the model to the mountain.  A lot of dynamite did the heavy work.

Crazy Horse monument.  The head was dedicated in 1998.  Below is what the carving will look like when done (probably not in our lifetime).  All four heads on Mr. Rushmore will fit in the Crazy Horse head.

Scenic drive in the Black Hills with Mt. Rushmore in the background.

Custer State Park in the South part of the Back Hills National Forest.  Enjoyed seeing all of the wild life.  We got real close to the buffalo and pronghorn antelope.  The burros are descendants of animals they used for work animals in the park several decades before.
